Vehicle sales tax, worked out from the buyer's address.
Colorado stacks state, county, city and special district rates, and the combination changes street by street. Scan the buyer's license, enter the numbers off the deal, and get the tax and a printed DR 0024.
What it does
- Scans the barcode on the back of a driver's license with your phone camera and fills in the buyer and their address
- Splits the rate into state, county, city and special districts, so you can see where each dollar came from
- Handles up to two trade-ins and the taxable difference
- Tells you what the dealer collects and what the buyer pays the County Clerk at registration, cash deal or financed
- Flags home-rule cities, where the rules are the city's own
- Out-of-state buyers: works through the DR 0780 and estimates what they will owe in their home state
- Scans or decodes the VIN and fills the vehicle details
- Prints the DR 0024 Standard Sales Tax Receipt
Kept current
Colorado publishes a new rate table (DR 1002) every January 1 and July 1. The tool shows which edition it is running — July 2026 right now — and warns you as the next one approaches. The update comes to you automatically; you do not reinstall anything.
Built on real deals
I wrote this for my own dealership in Wheat Ridge and use it on every deal. It is sold by subscription because the rates change twice a year and the tool has to change with them.
